Police Force Face Claims For Race Discrimination

Over recent months the British Police Force has found itself dealing with a number of claims for compensation due to discrimination in the workplace on grounds of race and ethnicity. One Police officer has submitted a claim for £500,000 pounds because he believes he was discriminated against and denied a promotion unfairly.

The claim is being made against the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Ian Blair, who has been accused of sidelining, Asian and black detectives. There is no limit on the amount of compensation which can be in claimed in a race discrimination case which typically results in demands for high payouts. However there does need to be compelling evidence that the discrimination has occurred in order for a case to be successful.

Unfortunately this Officer’s claim for compensation is not the only one to have been raised. Another Police employee has also submitted a claim for racial discrimination at the hands of Sir Ian Blair. The claims have come as a bit of a shock, as many people believe that the Metropolitan police Commissioner got the job because of his stance on promoting diversity not for being against it. **End Summary** Topics: Compensation Claims Compensation
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to No Win No Fee, <a href="http://www.accidentsdirect.com/compensation-claims.aspx" title="Compensation Claims">Compensation Claims</a> , Personal Injury Claims and other legal articles.

Moving House In The UK Is An Expensive Business

The whole process of buying and selling houses can be very expensive and is additional stretch on people’s finances. Two of the biggest costs are conveyancing and tax which can add thousands of pounds on both the buyers and sellers bills.

Recent figures show that the average cost of a conveyancing service for someone purchasing a property is now over one thousand pounds, whereas the costs for a seller is around five hundred pounds. If you add these costs up with stamp duty, and mortgage fees buyers especially are going to find the bills can get very expensive. In addition these figures can be made worse if a sale does not actually go through. Many people start the conveyancing process for buyers and sellers to back down at the last minute and change their minds. Often there are no refunds policies for fees on properties which fail to complete leaving many people out of pocket. It is estimated that the UK population spend around £98 million pounds every year on property sales that fail to actually complete. **End Summary** Topics: Buying Selling House Conveyancing
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Mortgages/" title="Mortgages">Mortgages</a> .
More People Choosing To Rent

Recent figures show the number of houses sold in the UK in the last five months has fallen by 32 percent compared to the same time last year. Figures by the HM Revenue and Customs which record the houses purchases of properties worth more than the initial forty thousand pound tax band, show that the number of properties sold between January and May 2008 was only 504,000 which is down from 743,000 last year.

It is now estimated that there are far more sellers than there are buyers in the market leading to speculation that the house market is still going to get worse before it gets better.

Some industry experts say that the mortgage industry has to take some responsibility for the state of the housing market. It was the mortgage industry which lent money to those people considered high risk and who only last year offered a huge range of products designed to tempt practically anyone into buying a property. Today the market is completely different with the number of mortgage products available down by 25 thousand from August last year. **End Summary** Topics: Mortgages Rent House
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Mortgages/" title="Mortgages">Mortgages</a> .

For banks and other financial institutions finding enough people who want to use their loan products has not typically been a problem in the past. However due to recent events within the global financial markets, lenders have tighten up their lending criteria across a range of their products to ensure they are not going to lose money by lending to high risk individuals.

With this is place, finding people who meet the criteria can be a bit more of a challenge. Lenders don’t want to stop loaning people money as this is the base of their business. If they do stop lending money their profits will decrease and they will find themselves struggling to make the profits they have experienced in recent years. These is where loan lead companies can come to the rescue and provide a much needed search facility to find the right customers for the banks to lend their money too.

Typically lead generation companies have focused on secured loan leads. Lenders are happier to lend in this way as it means that they get something back if the customer defaults on the loan. **End Summary** Topics: Loans Secured Loans
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Loans/Secured-Loans.aspx" title="Secured Loans">Secured Loans</a> .
Brits Are Taking More Cash On Holiday To Avoid Credit Card Charges

Credit cards have become a prominent part of modern day life with British consumers using them to pay from everything from the household bills to purchasing a new car. More people have also started to use them abroad on their holidays as a convenient way to pay for goods and services or as a means of withdrawing cash.

However using a credit card in this way does have some drawbacks, which some people have found out about the hard way. According to Nationwide Building Society, Brits abroad were charged over £650 million pounds in fees for foreign currency usage during 2007. Every time people were using their credit cards abroad they were being charged around 2.75% on top of their purchases. Even worse was the charge for withdrawing cash a broad which topped around three percent. In addition to this there may have been added a withdrawal charge making the total amount very expensive indeed.

However this year it seems that holiday makers have learnt their lesson and are more inclined to take out cash before travel to take with them rather than withdrawing cash abroad. **End Summary** Topics: Credit Card Charges Consumers
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Credit-Cards/" title="Credit Cards">Credit Cards</a> .
Legal Firms Struggling To Find Conveyancing Work

Legal firms who specialise in offering a conveyancing service are beginning to struggle to make the profits they were once used to. The downturn in the housing market has meant there are far less buyers and therefore fewer houses are actually selling.

Lawyers used to the property boom years are now starting to find it hard to survive, and many have to make stuff cut backs in order to save money. In addition the job market for newly qualified solicitors who wish to go into conveyancing is practically non-existent in some parts of the country. What is making the situation worse is that conveyancing has always been a large part of the legal industry in the UK and therefore a lot of time and effort has been spent building up practices and legal firms to cater for this need. Within the last year this seems to have changed completely due the drastic down turn in the number of people actually buying and selling property.

But it is not just the legal firms that are struggling in today’s market. Recruitment firms specialising in legal markets have felt the knock on effects of less conveyancing work. **End Summary** Topics: Conveyancing Property
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Mortgages/" title="Mortgages">Mortgages</a> .
Cap On Compensation For Whiplash Injuries To Be Reviewed

Car insurers in Canada are predicting a steep hike in insurance premiums if a current cap on compensation payments is removed. The average increase in rates is estimated at around eleven percent, which is a huge increase and way above the rate of inflation.

This percentage increase will translate to between $60 and $75 Canadian dollars per policy, adding another strain to individual’s finances. Currently a report is being prepared ahead of the debate which will determine whether limits on compensation should be lifted or remain in place.

Currently the reduction in insurance premiums in Canada over the last couple of years has been due to the Minor Injury Regulation. This was put in place to regulate the insurance market in regards to compensation pay out for smaller injuries such as whiplash and other soft tissue injuries. A cap was introduced on these types of injuries which has saved the insurance companies a considerable amount of money. However in February, this cap was ‘struck down’ by a Court of Queen’s Bench ruling and is due to be heard in the Alberta court of Appeal in September. **End Summary** Topics: Compensation Claims Whiplash Injuries
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to No Win No Fee, <a href="http://www.accidentsdirect.com/compensation-claims.aspx" title="Compensation Claims">Compensation Claims</a> , Personal Injury Claims and other legal articles.

People living in Australia, suffering from mesothelioma, a disease caused by asbestos poisoning are passing away before their claims for compensation are being heard. One Sydney Judge believes this is due to a cost saving measure which was implemented in 2005.

The judge has spoken out and urged the New South Wales government to make rapid changes to the way the cases are handled in order to prevent further anguish to those victims who are already sick. If changes are not made to the rules more people will either become too sick to be able to give full evidence or they will die.

The new system was introduced because of the huge legal costs which were amounting due to handling the number of asbestos related cases. In addition the funds for compensation were around $1.5 billion dollars less than what was needed. In order to cut down legal fees and reduce costs the government introduced a claims timetable and made mediation the way in which the claims were to be handled and solved. **End Summary** Topics: Compensation Claims Victims
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to No Win No Fee, <a href="http://www.accidentsdirect.com/compensation-claims.aspx" title="Compensation Claims">Compensation Claims</a> , Personal Injury Claims and other legal articles.

You may be forgiven for thinking that in today’s current economic situation finding a mortgage if you are a first time buyer is near on impossible. You would be right to a certain extent, in that mortgages for first time buyers are definitely harder to come by, but they are not completely extinct. The housing market relies on first time buyers to keep it buoyant and enable people to move to the next rung of the ladder.

If there is a huge drop in the number of first time buyers, as we are currently experiencing, the market becomes stagnant and prices are forced to drop. For lenders this is not good news. Banks and other financial intuitions which have lent money to people so they can buy property want that investment to stay sound. If house prices are going up then profits are going to be made, which reduces the risk to the lender it case of the borrower not being able to meet the monthly payments. So mortgage lenders are still offering products to help people onto the market, but admittedly the criteria to get one is now a lot more stringent. **End Summary** Topics: Mortgages First Time Buyers
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Mortgages/" title="Mortgages">Mortgages</a> .

The housing market in Britain is on a decline with more and more people being forced to sell due to rises in mortgage interest rates, and less buyers willing to invest in housing. More first time buyers are staying away from the housing market altogether as lenders become stricter their lending criteria and harsher with their interest rates.

For those who need to re-mortgage the market is moving very fast. It was only last week that one of the larger bigger banks was offering one of the best rates on the market, just seven days later this rate had jumped up by half a percent. Recently it has increased by additional 0.20 percent. The bad news is that this is not the only bank to raise its interest rates in quick succession with all of the big four lenders pushing up their interest rates particularly on shorter term fixed rate deals. Now the average two year fixed rate deal is more than seven percent, leaving home owners facing a more expensive mortgage bill. **End Summary** Topics: Property Mortgages Buyers
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Mortgages/" title="Mortgages">Mortgages</a> .

Compensation for accidents claims can be complex and difficult to work out. In some cases the issue of who is at fault may not be clear cut and it could take time to collect the evidence to determine the facts of the accident.

In other cases the injuries sustained may take some time to develop and until that happens, no one is really sure of the entire extent of the damage, and thus what would constitute a fair amount of compensation. However in a few cases some things seem to be pretty clear cut, in which case determining liability and settling the case should be a fairly rapid process. This is what was thought about John Dai’s case of a simple road traffic accident, but it turned out to be a lot more complicated due to actions by his lawyers.

John Dai, from Australia was hit from behind by another car whilst slowing for traffic lights in his station wagon. He had been on his way to work, at a computer accessory company when the accident had happened. **End Summary** Topics: Accident Claim Compensation Claims Injuries
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to No Win No Fee, Compensation Claims, <a href="http://www.accidentsdirect.com/accident-claims.aspx" title="Accident Claims">Accident Claims</a> , Personal Injury Claims and other legal articles.

Seat Designers Can Help Protect Against Whiplash

The car industry is under pressure to make and sell quality products amidst the economic slowdown of the global credit crunch and the increasing awareness of green issues. One important factor in achieving this is to manufacture cars with high safety ratings that will protect both the passengers and the driver in the event of a crash.

Often this means strengthening the side walls, and crumple zone, as well as fitting good quality air bags and ABS braking systems. However improving seat design can also have a big effect on the safety of the vehicle. Whiplash is a very common injury sustained in car accidents and can have long lasting negative health effects. Cars that help to reduce whiplash injuries will be providing their users with a very valuable attribute.

Car manufactures are aware of the importance of seat design and are asking their suppliers to provide them with more comfortable, safer and long lasting designs which will help boost the cars appeal. On top of this customers are making more demands such as, in-seat heating and cooling systems as well as an appealing look. **End Summary** Topics: Whiplash Accidents Injury Claims
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to No Win No Fee, Compensation Claims, <a href="http://www.accidentsdirect.com/whiplash-claims.aspx" title="Whiplash Claims">Whiplash Claims</a> , Personal Injury Claims and other legal articles.

Finding car insurance to meet your needs can be time consuming due to the high number of products available on the market. The car insurance industry is saturated with companies keen to sell their insurance products and beat the opposition.

In order to do this they offer various deals to target different demographics and entice them with various add on products and special offers. However the choice of which insurer and which product to go with has just got a little bit easier as Norwich Union announced that is it withdrawing its pay as you go insurance scheme.

The pay as you go scheme was only launched at the end of 2006 and was targeted at young drivers. The aim of the scheme was to monitor motorists driving patterns to see whether they would be entitled to a lower quote. Motorists who took up the offer had their cars fitted with a little black box which recorded information on the journeys they took, the time at which they were driving, as well as the speed at which they were going. **End Summary** Topics: Insurance Car Insurance
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyinsurance.com/Car-Insurance/" title="Car Insurance">Car Insurance</a> .
Mortgage Lead Companies Can Help The Housing Market

House prices in the UK are plunging, with fewer buyers looking to purchase properties. Those selling their homes have to compete with each other, and many are trying to undercut their prices to secure a sale. In addition those who are looking to buy are putting in low offers in the hope of securing a bargain in this unsteady market.

Banks and other financial lending institutions have tighten their lending criteria meaning that many first time buyers are no longer able to get a foot on the property ladder. The British Banking Association recently said that the number of mortgage approvals in May 2008 had fallen by more than 50 percent compared with the same month the previous year. The total number of mortgages approved was the lowest it had ever been since records were collected in 1997.

But it is not just who the banks are prepared to lend to that has changed, it is also the amount that they are prepared to lend. Previously mortgage lenders would be willing to lend to prospective buyers at one hundred percent of the purchase price of the house. Some people even got deals for one hundred and ten percent. **End Summary** Topics: Mortgage Buyers Properties
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Mortgages/" title="Mortgages">Mortgages</a> .
More People Relying On Short Term Loans

The number of people resorting to short term loans to boost their monthly finances has increased more than 130 percent since August last year. These types of loans are typically taken out to tide people over from one pay day to the next, and have increased dramatically due to the number of households no longer able to meet the monthly bills.

Typically available to people who earn more than £750 pounds a month, these types of loans are attractive to people who are struggling financially as they provide an immediate solution to putting food on the table and paying the bills. However whilst these types of loans might provide temporary financial relief, they often have exhorbantly high interest rates which can just exacerbate money problems further.

Companies, such as Payday UK, and Payday Bank offer these short term loans usually up to a value of one thousand pounds. Those who take out these loans then have the amount of the loan and the interest deducted in full from their bank account on their next payday. **End Summary** Topics: Loans Credit
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Loans" title="Personal Loans">Personal Loans</a> .
Loan Leads Company Introduces Lead Scoring Mechanism

One of the leading companies in the loan lead business has developed a predictive modelling service which will enable lead buyers to identify which loan leads are more likely to result in a customer taking out a loan. The company is known as ileads.com and its new modelling system is called LeadScore.

Together they aim to change the loan lead market by giving buyers the opportunity to find out which leads are likely to offer the greatest return on investment. The whole system is said to work in milliseconds and save both time and money.

The system works by using numerical data to predict the likelihood of an existing homeowner needing a new loan in the near future. Each lead is given an individual score, which indicates how successful the lead will be, in becoming an actual paying customer. Test runs using the program have shown that loans leads given a higher score by the program were four times more likely to result in a loan than leads with lower scores. Once a loan lead buyer has this information they can use it to determine in which order they will approach the leads to offer their products and services. **End Summary** Topics: Loan Lead Lenders
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Mortgages/" title="Mortgages">Mortgages</a> .

Councils across Britain pay out millions of pounds in compensation every year as a result of accident claims. The majority of these are due to slips and trips on council land which result in injury.

However new recent figures show that for one council ninety percent of the money paid out for in compensation for accident claims is due to accidents being cause by drivers employed by the council. The figures show that since January 2007 Bournemouth Council has had to pay more than fifty thousand pounds to settle accident claims.

The majority of the accidents were caused by driving manoeuvres, with people hitting stationary objects or reversing into things, costing the Council more than twenty-nine thousand pounds to settle. Whilst thirty-one of the claims were made by rubbish trucks, the total amount of damage caused came to a total of just over five thousand pounds. The most expensive accident was when a lease car reversed into another vehicle, causing a little over nine thousand pounds worth of damage. **End Summary** Topics: Accident Claims Compensation

Cheap Conveyancing - Can It Be Found Online?

Moving house is an expensive, not to mention stressful, business. Not only are you paying a mortgage, estate agents fees and stamp duty but you also need to pay for conveyancing.

We can shop online, order online and now we can do our conveyancing online. By doing this often complicated process over the internet; you can aim to save some money. A cheaper fee can be agreed up front, sometimes even half the cost of a local solicitor.

However, it has its draw backs. Being able to visit and build a relationship with your local solicitor can be invaluable. Having someone to speak face to face to about any snags is also very reassuring. Call centres and untrained individuals who refuse to explain the jargon to you can be found with online services. There are other problems to consider. If the coveyancing firm you have chosen is not based in your area they may charge you for unnecessary searches, something a local solicitor would not undertake. The process may also take longer then usual as everything has to go through the post. **End Summary** Topics: Mortgage Conveyancing Online
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Mortgages/" title="Mortgages">Mortgages</a> .

Although introduced relatively recently credit cards have become firmly entrenched in the average British household, and are used for a wide variety of spending from the weekly shop to booking a holiday. Their flexibility and ease of use have made them a popular alternative to carrying around cash and increased security measures such as the new chip and pin technology help people feel more secure in using them.

Credit cards are also a great way for generating extra cash, something that many people living in Britain are looking to do, whilst the economy goes through a down turn. This extra cash can be used to pay increasing household bills or for luxuries that otherwise would not be affordable. The interest rates on credit cards are competitive and many offer interest free deals in order to entice customers, so it is no wonder that more and more British consumers are deciding to get one.

But it seems people are not just stopping at one card. Cheap introductory deals coupled with the increase in household bills is encouraging people to take out more credit in order to get by.

We are lucky in this country that if you have an accident or become ill you are able to go to an NHS hospital, and seek treatment at their accident and emergency department. Most hospitals are located in central city locations and provide treatment around the clock in order to cater for largest number of people as possible.

Whilst this service is paid for through national insurance contributions there can be additional costs incurred when attending hospital especially if you do not live close by. Recently an elderly lady was taken to Ninewells hospital by ambulance as she was feeling unwell. On arrival she was treated by hospital staff until she was well enough to be discharged and go back home. Now while this may seem like a success story for the lady involved, it turned out to be a very expensive trip. This was because the lady was discharged at 2:30am in the morning and had no means of getting home. Ambulances are typically used only to transport sick people to hospital, and while there are some community ambulances which will transport elderly people they typically do not run a 24 hour service. **End Summary** Topics: Accident Claims Accident

The Costs Of Running A Car Can Outstrip Its Value

With the costs of running a car rising steeply, millions of motorists could find that it is costing them more to have their car on the road than the car is actually worth. The main contributor to the increase in driving costs is the price of petrol; however car insurance and road tax costs are also rising steadily.

This situation could become even worse if, as some experts have predicted petrol prices reach over two pounds a litre in 2009. There doesn’t seem much motorists can do to curb these costs and with public transport in many areas still inadequate to meet most people’s needs, using the car less may not be an option.

Data analysis carried out by online comparison website uSwitch.com has found that by 2009 many motorists may find that their car is worth little more than the annual amount they pay out to run it. In the UK nearly 15 million cars are more than five years old, which makes the average value of a car in this country just over four thousand pounds. With the average cost of petrol, insurance and tax is expected to cost an average of around £3,387. **End Summary** Topics: Car Insurance Motorists Value
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Insurance/Car-Insurance/" title="Car Insurance">Car Insurance</a> .

Homeowners in need of extra cash often turn to secured loans in order to meet their funding needs. Typically this money has been used for home improvements or the purchase of a new car, but recent statistics show that more people have started to take out loans to pay for private education.

An analysis of government data by Sainsbury’s Finance has shown that 18 thousand loans, including those secured against people’s homes, were taken out to pay for children’s education. These loans equated to around £165 million pounds, which is a staggering amount of money. The main reason behind this has been the increase in private school fees by an average of 6.2 percent in the last twelve months making the most common private school fees more than eleven thousand pounds a year.

Parents were taking out loans which averaged nine thousand pounds each to cover school fees, so that their children could remain in private education. Some of the reasoning behind this has been attributed to the rising cost of living in the UK and the instability of the job market. **End Summary** Topics: Secured Loans Fees Money
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Loans/Secured-Loans.aspx" title="Secured Loans">Secured Loans</a> .

Most drivers are aware of the rules of the road, and know that driving carelessly can lead to accidents. Driving whilst speaking on a mobile phone or eating food can lead to drivers becoming distracted and unable to drive properly which increases the likelihood of an accident.

When an accident occurs, and injuries have been sustained then the police will often attend the accident scene. In order to reach the scene promptly police officers may use their blue lights to cut through traffic and drive at higher speeds but this too can lead to more accidents. Whilst police officers do have to undergo specialist training the number of accidents caused by police cars on the road has increased over the years. These accidents have resulted in a number of injuries from whiplash to broken bones and in some cases even death.

Figures revealed in Parliament show that the number of car accidents involving members of parts of the police force have increased by over thirty percent in one year. **End Summary** Topics: Accidents Whiplash Claims

Companies which generate leads for mortgage lenders are finding the market tougher than in previous years. Prior to the global credit crunch companies who indentify people who are looking for a mortgage had an easier time finding people who matched the lenders criteria.

This was mainly because the lending criteria of banks and other financial intuitions were very different from what they are now. Many people who may not necessary have brought a home were encouraged to do so with offers of cheap interest rates and one hundred percent mortgages.

If you didn’t have a deposit for your home that was not a problem, nor was it a problem if you wanted a little extra cash for doing up your house once you had brought it. Lenders were happy to lend money to a larger range of people in all different kinds of financial situations, until it all turned sour. Some people who had been enticed to take out mortgages by mortgage lead generation companies, began to find it more difficult to meet the monthly repayments when inter
est rates started to rise. **End Summary** Topics: Mortgage Customers Lenders
About the Author:
Danielle is an author of several articles pertaining to <a href="http://www.onlyfinance.com/Mortgages/" title="Mortgages">Mortgages</a> .
The effects of the global credit crunch show no signs of relenting soon. Many households have been feeling the pinch for some time after fuel, food, and petrol prices have skyrocketed across the country. In times of difficulty such as these, many households will find they need to cut back on certain luxuries.

However lots of families are reporting that this is not enough, and some are beginning to cut out some of the essentials as well. Consumers are taking action and are now likely to check comparison websites more frequently to look for better deals to meet their insurance and banking needs.
